Journo reveals Tottenham are not pursuing Juventus star.
Tottenham Hotspur have already sealed two defensive signings, with Marcos Senesi being the latest. Spurs announced the capture of Senesi earlier this week after he departed Bournemouth on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Roberto De Zerbi has no plans to stop when it comes to revamping his defence. The 46-year-old wants to be reunited with Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, who is currently with the Netherlands squad at the World Cup. Tottenham have already agreed personal terms with Van Hecke and are pushing to agree a fee with Brighton.
Being right-footed, Van Hecke is viewed as a potential replacement for skipper Cristian Romero, who is likely to leave N17 this summer. Surprisingly, links with another central defender has now emerged.
Juventus star Gleison Bremer on Tottenham’s radar
Gleison Bremer has been a rock at the back for Juventus ever since he made the move from rivals Torino in 2022. He has made 122 appearances for Juventus thus far, chipping in with 11 goals and five assists. Amid an injury-curtailed 2025/26 campaign, the centre-back contributed heavily with four goals and three assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.
However, there has been speculation surrounding the Brazilian international’s future at the Allianz Stadium. While manager Luciano Spalletti views him as ‘untouchable’, Gleison Bremer has a £47m release clause in his contract. And one of his suitors has been Tottenham, with latest reports claiming that the Premier League side are preparing to bid for the 29-year-old.
However, reputed Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has now taken to his X account to reveal that Bremer is currently not a target for Roberto De Zerbi’s Spurs.
Bremer links to Tottenham have barely made sense
After clinching Senesi’s deal, Tottenham’s next defensive priority is Van Hecke. Spurs have been pushing to get a deal over the line, with two bids already rejected. De Zerbi wants the Dutchman to be a part of his squad, thanks to his ball-playing ability, aerial ability, composure in duels and leadership qualities.
Should the North Londoners sign Van Hecke, it could be the end of their defensive acquisitions for the summer transfer window. Even if the likes of Romero, Radu Dragusin and Luka Vuskovic depart, De Zerbi will have pure centre-back options in Micky Van de Ven, Kevin Danso, Senesi and Van Hecke. On top of that, the versatile Ben Davies, who recently signed a one-year contract extension, will be available as cover.
That said, it is good to see that Bremer is someone not being pursued by Tottenham. As the club officials are persisting for Van Hecke, rumours linking the Juventus star to the North Londoners never really made any sense.
