We are delighted to announce the signing of Julie Blakstad following the expiration of her contract at Hammarby IF, subject to international clearance and work permit.

The 24-year-old Norway international joins the Club on a permanent contract and will wear the number 41 shirt.

Julie said: “This is such a great Club, I’m so excited to start. This is a club with ambitions, I know both the players and staff have high ambitions, which I really like. They focus on development, which is really important for me, and I’ve always said I want to play against the best players as often as I can. I can’t wait to meet everyone in the team.”

Our Head Coach Martin Ho said: “Julie is a modern, dynamic full-back who brings a real attacking edge to her game. She combines pace, technical quality and game intelligence with the ability to consistently impact the game in the final third, while still delivering the defensive intensity and discipline required at the highest level. Julie’s bravery in possession, timing of her forward runs and quality of decision-making mean she will regularly influence decisive moments in advanced areas.

“She was a clear priority for us, and despite strong competition from a number of top clubs in England and across Europe, Julie chose Tottenham Hotspur as the best environment to continue her development. That decision reflects her ambition, belief in our project, and the clarity of our vision.

“We are delighted to welcome a player of her quality, mentality and potential to the Club.”

Julie’s early footballing days were spent in her hometown with Ottestad IL in Norway’s third division before making the switch to FL Fart in the summer of 2018, helping the club earn promotion to the Toppserien (top flight) at the end of that campaign with seven goals in 11 appearances.

Competing at the highest level in Norway for the first time, Julie continued to impress for FL Fart and, after scoring four goals in 22 games alongside a number of strong performances, she was voted as the league’s Breakthrough Player and earned a move to Sweden to join Rosengard, where she scored on her competitive debut for the club.

Scoring 17 goals in 35 league games across two full seasons in Trondheim, Julie was named Toppserien’s Young Player of the Year award in 2021 for her standout performances at just 20 years old while also making her UEFA Women’s Champions League debut.

She joined Manchester City in January, 2022, and featured 13 times in total for the 2022/23 campaign which ended with Women’s League Cup success. Having made a further nine appearances for City the following term, she joined BK Hacken on loan in March, 2023, for the remainder of the season.

Julie made the switch back to Sweden permanently in January, 2024, to join Hammarby IF and started all but one of her 26 appearances for the Stockholm-based side, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists. Arguably her best season to date in her career came in the season just gone, providing 21 goal involvements (15 goals and six assists) in 26 games, while netting three times in the Champions League.

On the international stage, her senior debut for Norway came in October, 2020, against Wales in a game that secured her nation’s spot at the 2022 European Championship. Julie would go on to score her nation’s first goal in the tournament against Northern Ireland and went on to feature at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The winger has 31 caps and three goals for her country to date.
