Liverpool’s Carabao Cup tie against Tottenham has been moved following the Champions League draw. The Reds were originally scheduled to host Tottenham at Anfield on Wednesday, September 16, but the fixture will now be played on Tuesday, September 15.
The change comes after Liverpool were drawn to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, September 9, while Everton and Wolves were scheduled to meet in the Carabao Cup on the same night.
Due to local safety protocols preventing Liverpool and Everton from hosting home matches on the same day, Everton’s fixture has been moved to September 16, forcing Liverpool’s tie with Tottenham to be brought forward by a day.
A club statement read: “A new date has been announced for Liverpool’s hosting of Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
“The tie at Anfield will now be played a day earlier, on Tuesday September 15, due to scheduling clashes. Kick-off remains at 8pm BST and the game will be shown live on both ITV and Sky Sports.”
Andoni Iraola’s side face five matches in 17 days in September, including trips to Ipswich Town and Bournemouth, as well as home fixtures against Atletico Madrid, Fulham and Tottenham.
Liverpool then return to action on October 11 against Manchester City. The Reds have drawn both of their opening Premier League games, including Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest. Despite goals from Alexander Isak and Victor Munoz, Liverpool currently sit 13th in the table.
Despite the slow start, the mood around Liverpool has been lifted by the arrival of Bradley Barcola, who officially joined from PSG on Monday.
With just over a day remaining before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, there is still plenty of business to complete, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.
