The Swede has been asked about his new team-mate's comments about the Tottenham Hotspur players' struggles with confidence

Lucas Bergvall believes Tottenham are "trying to build something big and it takes time" and refused to be drawn on Andy Robertson's comments about the club.

Spurs ' players have jetted off on international duty with the club languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table after five matches, following a major summer overhaul under Roberto De Zerbi. During an appearance on Stick to Football with Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher and Jill Scott, Robertson said that he feels like the Tottenham players and fans have lost their confidence after the club's struggles in recent seasons.

"That's the message of the manager, first and foremost and also that kind of falls on me, the new players, of we need to forget," said the Scot. "We need to now try and get Tottenham back to where we believe they belong. And the fans are still carrying it as well, and you don't blame them. They've been through such a tough time and things like that."

The experienced former Liverpool left-back pointed to various moments in recent games when Spurs have conceded goals and their heads have quickly dropped. Bergvall was asked about the 32-year-old's comments while on international duty with Sweden.

"It’s hard for me to say how we’ve been affected by previous years. But it’s a process. We have a lot of new players and a fairly new coach, who was part of saving us last year,” Bergvall told Fotbollskanalen, as translated by Sport Witness. "We’re trying to build something big and it takes time. But if he (Robertson) has that opinion, he has that opinion, I’m not saying it’s wrong or right."

The midfielder added: "It’s been a tough start for us, but we’re just looking ahead. Of course it’s tough. At the same time, it’s part of football. It feels like we’re playing better and taking steps every day in training. It’s just looking ahead and keeping going. Then we’ll get some kind of reward."

Bergvall put pen to paper on a bumper new contract this month and the 20-year-old spoke about the next steps in his improvement as a young player.

"It’s difficult to put into words exactly what you need to improve. It’s all from experience, to learn new things every day, and then get better at everything possible," he said.

"Be more mature in certain parts of the game. Maybe be even tougher in certain parts of the game. Then maybe there are things I don’t want to talk about in the media, what kind of relationship and communication we have between us."
