Manchester United are reportedly battling with Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool over a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes, as per Caught Offside.

Since moving to Molineux Stadium from Flamengo in 2023, the 25-year-old has established himself as an undisputed starter. Although the West Midlands club have endured a dire season, languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table, the Brazilian has shown glimpses of his quality.

In 35 appearances across all competitions, Gomes has made four goal contributions. Moreover, he helped his side beat Aston Villa 2-0 by putting his name on the scoresheet last month.

Now, Caught Offside claim that with Wolves set to endure relegation, Gomes is highly likely to leave this summer. Man Utd are considering revamping the midfield and have a long-standing interest in the South American.

However, Liverpool are in this race as well, while Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle United, and Napoli have enquired about the details of purchasing him this summer.

With Gomes’ existing deal set to run until 2030, Wolves value him at around £52m. However, if they fail to secure their top-flight status, they might be forced to sell him for just around £35m.

Gomes is an energetic box-to-box midfielder by trait, but is also efficient in the defensive midfield position. He is technically sound, quick across the ground, and efficient in defensive contributions.

Battle

With Casemiro set to leave as a free agent this summer, Man Utd have been exploring options to replace the Brazilian and have been linked with a plethora of names.

On the other hand, Liverpool are said to be looking at options to refresh the engine room, having endured a difficult campaign this season.

Tottenham have also displayed woeful performances this season and are languishing in the relegation scrap. So, they need to secure top-flight status to sign top-class talents like Gomes.
