Manchester United’s summer recruitment is underway as the club reshape their squad in the transfer market. Michael Carrick has already welcomed several new signings but will want to further strengthen before the start of the new campaign.
United have begun rebuilding their midfield after losing Casemiro at the end of last season. Andrey Santos signed from Chelsea before the club completed a shock move for Aston Villa ’s Youri Tielemans.
Former Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow has also arrived as experienced backup to Senne Lammens. However, United have shown a commitment to building for the long-term after sealing a move for highly-rated Tottenham prospect Tynan Thompson.

Marcus Rashford latest
Marcus Rashford is open to rejoining United training at the end of his summer break after collecting a bronze medal at the World Cup. The forward has not played for United since December 2024, though his next steps have seemed uncertain since Barcelona opted not to trigger their £26m buy option at the end of his loan deal this summer.
A second clause that allowed clubs to sign Rashford for £40m also expired this month. BBC Sport reports that Rashford, who has two years left on his contract, is “relaxed” about the thought of linking back up with the United squad in training.
The 28-year-old is also claimed to have a more positive dynamic with his ex-teammate and new boss Carrick compared to his “confrontational relationship” with former United manager Ruben Amorim. In his latest spell away from Old Trafford, Rashford notched 14 goals and assists apiece for Barcelona last term, winning La Liga.
Upon completing his World Cup duties, Rahford wrote on social media: “Keep believing in us. Our time will come. Now it's time for me to rest, reflect, spend some quality time with family and friends, and come back a better version of myself."
£8m transfer complete
United have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur prospect Tynan Thompason. The 18-year-old, who was named in Champions League matchday squads for Spurs last season, has arrived for an initial £4m, plus a further £4m in potential add-ons.
The winger is set to start his United career with the club’s U21s but could force his way into first team plans. The deal with Spurs also includes a 15 per cent sell-on clause.
Announcing the transfer, a United statement said: " Manchester United have agreed the signing of exciting young winger Tynan Thompson, subject to registration. The England youth international has joined from Tottenham Hotspur.
"The 18-year-old scored 13 goals and contributed six assists last season across Under-18s to Under-21s level, including seven goals in seven UEFA Youth League games. His performances earned him opportunities within Spurs’ first-team matchday squads. Everyone at United would like to welcome Tynan to the club and wish him the very best of luck for the future."
