Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have fallen behind Manchester United in the race to sign 17-year-old Belgian prodigy Jorthy Mokio from Ajax.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Jorthy Mokio is the subject of interest from Manchester United. Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also keen on signing the Ajax wonderkid. However, they have fallen behind the Red Devils in the race to sign the 17-year-old midfield sensation from the Eredivisie giants.

Who is Jorthy Mokio?

Jorthy Mokio is the latest highly rated prodigy from his homeland to become a household name. Belgium is promising to produce another batch of world-class players, with Nathan De Cat, Malick Fofana, Konstantinos Karetsas, and Arthur Vermeeren also rising in prominence in the last few years. As for the 17-year-old, he spent most of his formative years thus far in Belgium before joining Ajax in July 2024.

The Belgian wonderkid has already broken into Ajax’s first-team squad, making 29 appearances thus far while chipping in with two goals. Meanwhile, Mokio’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Newcastle United recently joined the race to sign the Gent native. The Tyneside outfit’s interest makes sense, as Joelinton faces an uncertain future at St. James’ Park. So, the teenage sensation has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Jorthy Mokio is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a defensive midfielder, as Casemiro is on the wrong side of 30. The Brazilian international faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford, while Manuel Ugarte has failed to make his mark since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain last year. So, Mokio is an option worth considering for Manchester United.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Yves Bissouma has no future at the North London club, with widespread reports revealing that Thomas Frank will sanction his exit. So, Makio has emerged as a viable target for Tottenham. However, Tottenham and Newcastle United have fallen behind Manchester United in the race to sign the 17-year-old Ajax wonderkid.

The Red Devils are “already working on a project that could offer Mokio guaranteed minutes and a clear development path” in the coming years. So, after taking the lead in the race to sign Mokio from Ajax, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Belgian midfield sensation.
