Manchester United have completed the signing of highly rated Tottenham Hotspur winger Tynan Thompson, subject to registration.

The 18-year-old has moved to Old Trafford after United agreed a permanent transfer with their Premier League rivals.

Thompson had been part of Tottenham’s academy since the age of 12 and signed his first professional contract in May 2025. However, United moved quickly once they learned he was open to continuing his development in Manchester.

According to talkSPORT, United will pay an initial £4million. The agreement could rise to £8million through add-ons linked to first-team achievements.

Tottenham have also secured matching rights and a 15% sell-on clause as part of the deal.

Manchester United secure highly rated winger

Thompson mainly operates from the left and arrives after an impressive season in Tottenham’s academy.

The England Under-18 international registered 13 goals and six assists across youth competitions. Seven of those goals came during seven UEFA Youth League appearances.

He was also named on Tottenham’s bench for senior matches against Doncaster Rovers, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund, although he did not make his competitive debut.

ReadManUtd previously reported that Manchester United wanted to complete a deal for the Tottenham winger quickly once club-to-club negotiations began.

Thompson is not expected to move directly into Michael Carrick’s starting side. United have instead offered the winger a pathway towards senior football while he initially works within the club’s development structure.

His arrival continues the club’s attempt to recruit leading domestic talent before players become established at first-team level.

United have already strengthened their academy in recent windows, and Thompson now becomes another high-potential addition to the Carrington ranks.
