Tottenham are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they face a resurgent Manchester United. Spurs had a good week of last, picking up a big win in the Champions League and then coming from two goals down to draw with Manchester City.
Thomas Frank’s men will be hoping to follow up those results with a big one at Old Trafford as they look to play party poopers to Michael Carrick’s big start. The new Red Devils interim boss has won all three of his first league games in charge, including statement victories like Arsenal and Manchester City.
This is one of the most interesting ties of the Pemier League weekend, and here we put together the predictions from SportsKeeda’s Paul Merson and BBC Sport’s Chris Sutton.
Paul Merson
“This is a massive football match. Michael Carrick has started brilliantly at Manchester United, but we saw the same with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ole at the wheel and all that! The only way Carrick can get this job permanently is if he loses four games and then responds by turning that run around. That is how you get measured in big jobs. I believe Solskjaer couldn't do it. If Carrick can do it, then we know he can cope with the pressure at Old Trafford.
“It's difficult to think who starts for Manchester United in this game. Do they go with Benjamin Sesko because he scored the late winner against Fulham? I'm not so sure. Sometimes, it suits these players to come off the bench rather than start a game.
“At the moment, I would say Manchester United are the big favourites to finish in the top five. That win over Fulham was a huge result. They only play once a week as well, which is a huge advantage compared to Liverpool and Chelsea. So I would have to call them favourites even though it's still very tight.
“Carrick will show Tottenham a lot of respect. I think this is a hard game to call. Spurs are obviously a better team when they have Dominic Solanke in their line-up. But I'm going to go for a Manchester United win here. Prediction: Manchester United 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur.”
Chris Sutton
“Manchester United were slightly fortunate to beat Fulham last time out. A draw would have been about right. Still, it was big for Benjamin Sesko to get their winner and I have got to say he put it away very nicely, especially because he should have scored with a header earlier in the game.
“Tottenham, meanwhile, produced a great comeback against Manchester City. I've talked about how much I rate Dominic Solanke and when he is up for Spurs, they are in a much better place as a team. There is a danger of getting carried away with United under Michael Carrick, and I am expecting Solanke to score again here, but it still feels like United will find a way to win it. Prediction: 2-1.”
