Napoli are considering a move for Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku, after Antonio Conte previously tried to sign him for Tottenham Hotspur.
That’s according to journalist Emanuele Cammaroto, via Calcio Napoli 24, who reports that there has been a survey made by the Italian champions.
Nkunku is believed to be on the Chelsea sell list this summer as the Blues continue to add and sell from the current massive squad Enzo Maresca has at his disposal.
Nkunku has never really settled at Stamford Bridge, and it has been reported that he is considering moving on as he’d like to establish himself in the France squad ahead of the World Cup next summer.
Several sides have been linked with a potential move for him, although nothing concrete has happened up to this point in the window.
Now Cammaroto reports that Napoli could be in the mix for him, as they continue to strengthen Antonio Conte’s squad this summer.
The Italian side are continuing to back Conte in the window as they look to defend their title this season and it appears the Chelsea man is now on their list, thanks to Conte being a fan.
“We can exclusively reveal that there has been an important survey for Christopher Nkunku, Chelsea’s winger,” the journalist explained.
“The Frenchman is a name specifically mentioned by Antonio Conte. We reiterate, as of today, there hasn’t been a final choice for the left winger, but Napoli wants to make it, and it won’t be a fallback or the usual Okafor; they’re looking for a highly competitive player.
“Nkunku is on his way out of Chelsea, with a contract until 2029, but he’s not part of Maresca’s plans. It’s no coincidence that Napoli has so far inquired with Chelsea about the club’s conditions for their player’s departure.
“Relations between the two clubs are notoriously excellent. Therefore, Nkunku—we emphasize this in capital letters—is not the chosen one, it’s a possibility, but it’s a path worth pursuing. Nkunku would have Conte’s full approval, having already wanted him at Tottenham when the boy was playing for Leipzig.”
