Brentford have held advanced talks with set-piece coach Keith Andrews about becoming Thomas Frank’s replacement at the club, according to reports.
Frank has left the Gtech Community Stadium to join London rivals Tottenham Hotspur after Ange Postecoglou was sacked by the club despite guiding them to the Europa League and their first trophy in 17 years. However, Spurs’ domestic form proved the decisive factor in the Australian’s dismissal.
The Independent has reported the Bees are looking to move swiftly to replace Frank with 44-year-old Andrews “well regarded” by the club and he has already given the all clear to put together his coaching staff. Justin Cochrane was reportedly viewed as a leading contender to replace Frank but he has also left for Spurs.
Andrews is a former professional, having started his career with Wolves. He had spells with a number of clubs in the EFL. He spent four years at Blackburn Rovers, as well as two years with MK Dons while also playing for club on loan in the final season of his career.
Kieran McKenna was identified as a potential replacement for Frank but the Bees did not want to be stung by a departure to a big club again as they believed the Northern Irishman “has bigger aspirations within the Premier League.”
Bryan Mbeumo hails Thomas Frank
Another man who could be leaving Brentford this summer is forward Bryan Mbeumo. He has been the subject of interest from Manchester United but he has also been linked with Spurs following Frank’s move to North London. Mbeumo enjoyed his best Premier League season date in the 2024-25 campaign with 20 goals and seven assists in 38 games.
Speaking to Sky Sports from the paddock during the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix over the weekend, Mbeumo hailed the impact of Frank on his career. He said: "He's done so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start [at Brentford] and he developed the team so well. He developed me as a human and a player so much as well. I can only wish him all the best and I'm sure he's going to do well.
"He knows everything; he's really smart and knows what he wants to bring the team, how he wants them to play. He's been fantastic for Brentford."
What Thomas Frank said after leaving Brentford
Writing on the Brentford club website, Frank said of his departure: “The time has come for me to move on. But, even as I leave, I know I have left a big piece of my heart at Brentford, not just at the football club but with the community and, of course, the incredible and loyal supporters.
“I want to extend my profound gratitude to the club for giving me the chance to pursue my dreams and for everyone involved who made the journey such a memorable one.
“For my family and I, it has been a privilege to be allowed to be part of such a special community - it’s an experience and adventure that we will cherish for life. So, thank you. Whatever we have achieved, we have achieved together, and our success is built on unity, spirit, courage and ambition at every level of the club and amongst the fans.
“Everybody has contributed, and every contribution has been invaluable. I am not just leaving a football club, I am saying goodbye to friends whose support through good and bad times I will carry with me always.”
