Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is adamant that his position at Selhurst Park is not under threat before the end of the season, but the club are drawing up a shortlist of candidates ahead of the summer.

The Austrian is out of contract come the end of the season and has confirmed that he will not extend his deal. Glasner has been outspoken with criticism over a lack of backing in the transfer window following FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs last year.

A recent run of poor results had prompted reports that the Eagles could fire the manager before the season ends with all still to play for in the UEFA Conference League. However, with a place in the last 16 now booked, Glasner is adamant he will not leave his post early.

Speaking last week, the manager said: "I've had 100% assurance [of staying on]. For me it's always number one is the players, the players believing in me and the staff - and that's the most important thing, otherwise you can pack your suitcase and go home.

"They have a great togetherness in the group, the staff and it's the same with the chairman and sporting director. They are sometimes wondering - it's the second-best Premier League season ever. The best was last year, so maybe the best two in Palace's history, playing European football for the first time, and there is so much noise so sometimes we really don't understand it.

"Maybe I gave some interviews which were not really helpful, I have to admit, but I always say what I am feeling and sometimes it's positive, sometimes it's not so positive. That's Oliver Glasner, and in the end we are in a very good position in the league and Conference League and now it's up to us with our fans to make a really good season of it."

Robbie Keane on Crystal Palace managerial shortlist

Crystal Palace will still have to make an appointment in the summer and one of the names linked is Robbie Keane. In an update on Tuesday, GiveMeSport journalist Ben Jacobs reported that the Spurs and Premier League legend has indeed been shortlisted by the club.

Jacobs was reporting on Spurs’ hunt for a new permanent manager and named Keane as an outside contender for the role. Crystal Palace could face competition for his services from Tottenham should the North London club fail to appoint Mauricio Pochettino or Roberto De Zerbi.

Keane, who is currently working at Ferencváros, had been linked with the Spurs post following the departure of Thomas Frank earlier this year. At the time, Keane said: “I think it’s nice that your name is there. Who puts it there? I have no clue. I think it shows you that I’m doing okay. To be even put there, again, I don’t even know, is it just the bookmakers? I have no clue how it works. I’m obviously aware of it, but I’m happy here.

“It’s a fantastic club, unbelievable training ground and stadium. It’s amazing, of course, as we all know. And really good players, good squad of players.”
