Tottenham Hotspur urged to part ways with Yves Bissouma in the summer transfer window
Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma is one of several players that might face the axe at N17 in the coming weeks. The Mali international endured a ‘stop-start’ campaign for the Lilywhites this season and failed to make the starting spot his own under Ange Postecoglou, despite the injury crisis at the club.
The 28-year-old arrived at Hotspur Way in 2022 after enduring a successful stint at Brighton and Hove Albion. But it is fair to say that the midfielder has failed to replicate the consistent performances that he put in for the Seagulls week in week out in the Premier League. He looks lost in the middle of the pitch and the weight of the jersey seems to hold him down from performing freely on the biggest stage.
The Malian was relied upon heavily by Big Ange during the initial months of the 2023/24 season. However, a drop in form midway through the season saw the 28-year-old lose his place in the starting eleven for good under the Australian tactician. But it is important to note that Bissouma played a massive part in the latter stages of this season to ensure Spurs won the Europa League and ended their 17-year wait for a trophy.
Tottenham should cash-in on Yves Bissouma in the summer
Tottenham star Yves Bissouma is facing an uncertain future at N17, despite showing glimpses of his true potential in recent months under Ange Postecoglou. The Spurs No.8 is linked with a move to Fenerbahce, as Jose Mourinho intends to add a holding midfielder to the club’s ranks for next season. Not only Fenerbahce, but Aston Villa and a number of Saudi clubs are also interested in the 28-year-old’s services.
Now, Alasdair Gold has also urged the North London club to cash-in on Bissouma as Spurs look to kickstart a new era at N17. Writing for Football.london, Gold said,
“The Mali international came good in the final few Europa League matches but this was a difficult season for Bissouma. He’s just not consistent enough and turns 29 this summer while reaching the final 12 months of his contract. It feels like the time to part ways unless Frank firmly believes he can unlock fully what Postecoglou could only do occasionally despite his mutual affection for the midfielder.”
Alasdair Gold acknowledged Yves Bissouma’s rise in form during the last part of the campaign to help Tottenham win the Europa League. However, the reliable journalist believes that the 28-year-old is inconsistent and he also turns 29-years-old in a few weeks. Gold also pointed out that the Lilywhites must cash-in on the Malian as he only has one year left in his contract.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Bissouma as Spurs get ready for a massive squad overhaul in the summer. Fans are expecting the ex-Brighton star to head for pastures new in the summer as the Lilywhites look to add a quality replacement to their ranks for next season. However, Spurs fans will not forget Bissouma’s contributions during the last part of this season as he helped the club win its first trophy in 17 years.
