Once again, it’s time to go over the biggest and juiciest new Premier League transfer rumours in our latest round-up and review – starting with a story concerning Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.
Last year’s surprise package are “exploring a deal” to re-sign former full-back Matty Cash, according to The Athletic, as well as persisting with their widely-reported interest in Manchester City’s Rico Lewis.
While Cash’s current club, Villa, “have not received any formal approach” it’s claimed that Forest have the Poland international in their sights again, five years after he left the City Ground in a £14m deal.
Apparently his high wages “would make it a potentially challenging deal” for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, and in any case Villa are allegedly offering Cash an extension to a contract which expires in 2027. There’s no word on how much Forest might offer or when a bid could come in.
The 3AM Verdict: We have a certain degree of healthy scepticism over a deal for Cash if Villa really are trying to extend his contract anyway, but it’s more likely than a successful move for Lewis, who seems more than happy to stay at the Etihad and remains in Pep Guardiola’s plans.
Tottenham ‘stepping up’ bid for rival team’s captain
Over to a story from Caught Offside, now, who allege that Tottenham Hotspur are “stepping up their efforts” to sign a former Thomas Frank disciple – Nathan Collins, the current captain of Brentford.
A potential transfer is described as “complicated” as Brentford have the Irishman under contract all the way up to 2029, and the Bees are said to be “eager” not to lose any more key players after the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Nørgaard already left. Nevertheless, Frank is said to be “keen” to link back up with Collins and “contacts are expected to take place imminently.”
Supposedly, Liverpool and Manchester United are also interested in Collins, although Liverpool are more interested in Marc Guéhi while United need to sell before they could lodge a bid. There’s no word on what might be enough to break Brentford’s resolve.
The 3AM Verdict: We’re far too early in the process to know whether it’s realistic to think a deal could be done or to know who’s leading the race, but Spurs probably have the edge right now based solely on the practicalities of the situation. Still, Collins staying with Brentford is perhaps more probable still.
Second Manchester City star become Turkish target
Over the past few weeks, there have been numerous reports concerning Galatasaray’s interest in Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson – but the Brazilian isn’t the only City star on the Turkish team’s radar, according to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.
Galatasaray are now “pushing to sign” defender Manuel Akanji before the end of the transfer window and are said to be “cautiously optimistic” that a deal can be agreed as Pep Guardiola looks to thin down his squad a little.
Negotiations are said to be taking place, but there’s no word on whether the 30-year-old Switzerland international is interested or not, or how much City might charge. As for Ederson, there is “still no agreement in sight”.
The 3AM Verdict: The key to all this is whether Akanji actually wants to go to Istanbul or not, and that’s information we don’t yet have – but Galatasaray have the money to make such a deal work. The tortuous negotiations over Ederson suggest that this won’t be an easy deal to get done, however.
