Pedro Porro fumes after substitution as Joe Hart questions ‘chaos’ at Tottenham Hotspur - ‘A real head loss’

Joe Hart believes Pedro Porro’s "head loss" at being substituted in Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace highlighted the "chaos" at the club, exemplifying the "emotional decisions" that have caused it. The right-back hit one of the seats in the dugout and threw an object at the floor, with his side on course for a fifth straight defeat in the Premier League, leaving them 16th.

Joe Hart believes Pedro Porro’s "head loss" at being substituted in Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace was indicative of the overall chaos at the north London club and lack of balance in personalities.

The Spaniard was replaced by Xavi Simons in the 74th minute of Thursday’s Premier League contest and appeared to shout at the fourth official as he made his way to the bench before hitting one of the seats and throwing an object at the floor.

Spurs had taken a 1-0 lead in the match just after the half-hour mark thanks to Dominic Solanke’s close-range finish, but they were reduced to 10 men just four minutes later following Micky van de Ven’s red card.

Palace then scored three goals in the space of eight minutes to take a 3-1 lead into the interval, and Oliver Glasner’s men were able to see out the second period, leaving Spurs in 16th, just one point above the relegation zone.

With Cristian Romero still suspended following his straight red at Manchester United, Hart believes the incidents against Palace have further highlighted the issues present in the Spurs squad.

Following Porro’s reaction to being substituted, the former Spurs goalkeeper said on TNT Sports: "He has smashed everything on the bench. He gave the fourth official a real earful. It was a real head loss."

Hart added: "He's obviously an emotional character; you can't put it on. There's fire that runs through him, and that's probably when he gets the best out of himself.

"But you've got to also control that. He's such an important player for Tottenham, and he has to set an example in these difficult times.

"It's one thing that surprised me under Thomas Frank, that it has seemed like chaos ensues all the time. Emotional decisions are being made all over the pitch. You do need players like that in your squad, but the best squads have the best balance.

"They're able to check each other when someone is losing it. You need someone in the team able to give you a slap and say, 'calm down, we've got big moments ahead, it's not about you'."

Spurs have now lost their last five Premier League games, while Igor Tudor has equalled Martin Jol’s record of losing his first three games at the club.

With the Croatian sending his players out early for the second half after their collapse at the end of the opening period, Hart suggested there was also plenty of frustration coming from the Spurs boss as well as his players.

He said: "It's about leadership and he is absolutely seething tonight. He was cool and calm before the game; he obviously had his outburst and rant at officials in the previous game.

"The fact he sent his side out five minutes earlier than the opposition at the start of the second half shows you what went on [at half-time].

"There will be some big conversations and training sessions coming up in the next couple of days. Someone has got to get a grip of this place, ASAP."

It does not get much easier for Tudor, with Spurs’ next league game coming in the form of a trip to Anfield, sandwiched between UEFA Champions League last 16 clashes versus Atletico Madrid.
