Tottenham Hotspur have been wanting to sign young players from Manchester City since the summer transfer window. After barely putting up a fight for Rayan Cherki and watching the gem of a French playmaker join Pep Guardiola's side, Tottenham began to show considerable interest in young Manchester City winger Savinho in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Despite Savinho's bit role at Man City, the Citizens were reluctant to sell the Brazilian talent to a Premier League top four rival, especially with Rodrygo Goes not being able to move to the Etihad from Real Madrid. So Savinho stayed put in the summer window.

Savinho's poor performances in 2025/26 have drawn the ire of Man City fans, and the former Girona star could be made available for a Tottenham transfer in 2026. But even as Spurs remain interested in another winger, their main priority is a better target they will be fighting hard with Man City to sign in Bournemouth breakout superstar Antoine Semenyo.

The dream upgrade for Tottenham

Meanwhile, Tottenham now have a new transfer need on their radar in the goalkeeper position, as Guglielmo Vicario's comedic errors on the ball, poor distribution, and mishandling have shrouded his positives, while both the fans and the club itself are fed up with his poor leadership and his constant habit of throwing young players under the bus for his own mistakes.

Young Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford is THE player at his position to watch in Europe this winter transfer window. He just joined the Citizens in the summer from Burnley after an insane season in the Championship, but his dream transfer quickly turned into a nightmare as he has been buried on the bench behind one of the world's best keepers in Champions League hero Gianluigi Donnarumma of PSG fame.

But despite the rampant transfer rumors of James Trafford wanting away in order to start every week, Manchester City do not sound one bit interested in selling. Via top transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola told reporters at a recent press conference that Trafford is going nowhere in January, “James Trafford stays in January. He’s staying with us this season, absolutely”.

Tottenham fans can, for now, kiss their dream Vicario upgrade in the winter goodbye. Players like Mike Maignan and Andriy Lunin could be other dream upgrades to watch, but Trafford is the sort of tailor made replacement ready for stardom in the Premier League. They will continue to hope Man City change their minds and sell him.
