Tottenham Hotspur have endured a tough season to date under the guidance of Thomas Frank. The Dane was picked as their replacement for Ange Postecoglou last summer after catching the eye with fellow Premier League side Brentford. However, his team have struggled for consistency in this campaign and pressure is starting to grow.
The North London outfit were dumped out of the FA Cup at the third round stage by Aston Villa over the weekend. They were beaten 2-1 by Unai Emery’s side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Frank’s men are back in action on Saturday with a league clash against West Ham at home as they aim to bounce back.
Tottenham Hotspur chief Fabio Paratici set to leave, says David Ornstein
Spurs co-sporting director Fabio Paratici is set to leave for Fiorentina this winter, says journalist David Ornstein. The Italian is poised for a return to Italy at the end of the January transfer window. He has been with his current club since joining them back in June 2021.
In this latest update regarding his situation in England, The Athletic reporter Ornstein has posted on X: “Fabio Paratici set to exit Tottenham Hotspur after current transfer window. Co-sporting director helping #THFC in January market before return to Italy for personal reasons. Expected to join Fiorentina.”
Paratici, 53, first linked up with Spurs five years ago. He was responsible for the arrival of Antonio Conte as manager and oversaw signings like Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski, among others. He resigned from his position in 2023 before re-joining in October last year.
As a player, the Borgonovo Val Tidone-born man was a defender and he had spells with the likes of Sassuolo, Palermo and Lecce. He hung up his boots in 2004 after a final stint at Brindisi. Paratici has since held behind-the-scenes roles at Sampdoria and Juventus.
What now for Tottenham Hotspur?
Spurs need to hit some form soon and rise up the table. They are currently sat in 14th place in the league after 21 fixtures and have 27 points on the board. The North London outfit finished 17th in the division in the last campaign but managed to win the Europa League under Postecoglou.
Frank’s move hasn’t worked out yet though and it remains to be seen how much time he will be given if things don’t improve. He has the chance to bring in some new faces over the coming weeks before the end of the January transfer window to try and freshen things up. Frank also has the opportunity to sell some more players to free up space and funds in his squad.
Spurs will need to find a replacement for Paratici. He will link up with a Fiorentina side who are in the drop zone in Serie A after a tough term to date. They are inside the bottom three along with Pisa and Hellas Verona and are two points from safety behind Genoa in 17th after their 1-1 draw with AC Milan last time out.
