Over the past few months, Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero has been regularly linked to Atlético Madrid.

On Tuesday, Los Rojiblancos manager Diego Simeone hailed the centre-back and said he would “obviously” like to sign him.

Two days ago, TyC Sports stated the 27-year-old could decide to stay at Tottenham after considering an exit. This is mainly because of the north London club’s new project under their Thomas Frank.

The Spanish media states the La Liga club haven’t given up on the defender and journalist Rubén Uría provides the latest for El Desmarque. He says the Argentina international is of great interest to the Madrid club and above all, Simeone.

According to the journalist, the manager has been calling the World Cup winner on a near daily basis, to convince him to join Atlético. Romero has a contract until 2027, and Uría believes the fee needed to take him away from the Europa League winners is on the high side.

“I know that El Cholo calls Cuti Romero, almost every day, to see if he can convince him,” he said.

“They’re going to ask for a lot. €58-€60m for this player, which is a lot of money for a centre-back. But I don’t know why Atleti would go after him. We’ll see how the summer goes.”
