Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has publicly stated he wants to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero this summer.
Recent claims have stated the La Liga club are in negotiations with Spurs. The Spanish, English and the Argentine media have been reporting conflicting figures on Tottenham’s request and the fee Atlético are willing to offer.
On Tuesday, Mundo Deportivo reported Atlético’s desire is to sign him between €45-55m. Later that day, journalist Rubén Uría said Tottenham are asking €82m for the centre-back.
Argentine journalist Fernando Czyz took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report on the efforts put in by Daniel Levy to retain the 27-year-old.
The defender’s contract expires in 2027, and Czyz states the Spurs chairman has made an exciting renewal offer, to make him the highest paid player in the squad.
Czyz claims the Argentina international responded to Levy by stating: ‘It’s not a question of money, but of professional challenges. I love Tottenham and they will always be in my heart.’
It’s down to the Tottenham supremo to decide whether to keep the player after he’s rejected a renewal offer or sell him this summer. The journalist also talked about Atlético’s offer of €55m plus €10m bonuses and adds that they could raise the bonuses by €5m.
El Desmarque relay Czyz’s claim and then state that Romero rejecting the renewal offer leaves Levy in a ‘delicate position’.
Atlético continue to push for his arrival and ‘everything is in Levy’s hands’, meaning he has to decide the World Cup winner’s future.
