Tottenham Hotspur can buy Real Betis’ Johnny Cardoso by exercising the clause that will come into effect after this season.
In August, Tottenham sold Giovani Lo Celso to the La Liga club and as part of the deal, they secured a purchase option to buy Cardoso in the summer window. Earlier this year, he extended his contract until 2030 and it was then stated Spurs weren’t impacted by this.
Back in February, ABC Sevilla stated Tottenham have to agree personal terms with the midfielder to exercise the €25m clause. Last month, he expressed his desire to continue at Real Betis for “many years”.
El Desmarque points out the north London club’s €25m clause is valid in June. They also have to reach an agreement with the 23-year-old, who isn’t sure where he wants to play next season.
If Tottenham were to activate the clause, Cardoso ‘will have the last word’ on whether to join them. He could reject them, continue at Real Betis or decide to join another club in the upcoming window.
El Desmarque seem to be confident that he’ll receive offers as Manchester United and Atlético Madrid are among the clubs following him.
His entourage state the player and his family are happy in Seville. They are also aware he could receive better offers, both sporting wise and financially, later in the summer. He seems to be torn over his future and perhaps something like Tottenham winning the Europa League could help swing things for him.
