Eddie Howe feels destined to rotate against Tottenham Hotspur as Newcastle United continue their defence of the Carabao Cup.
Having beaten Bradford City in the previous round, Newcastle United have been rewarded with another home tie. This time they are up against Tottenham Hotspur, who have started the new campaign brightly under Thomas Frank.
But the Magpies are finding form themselves, having won four out of their last five games. They are in the midst of an intense schedule with Eddie Howe’s side competing on all fronts.
That continues in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, and this is Geordie Boot Boys’ predicted Newcastle United starting XI to face Tottenham Hotspur.
Sven Botman rested for Carabao Cup clash
While Sven Botman did not suffer a concussion during Newcastle’s win over Fulham, the fact he came off with a head injury makes it likely he will be rested on Wednesday night.
His replacement is easy, as Fabian Schar has been waiting patiently since recovering from a concussion of his own. He will join Malick Thiaw at centre-back, with the duo playing together for the first time on Saturday.
The only other change in defence should see Emil Krafth replace Kieran Trippier. The 35-year-old needs a rest, having played a lot of football during Tino Livramento’s injury layoff.
While Nick Pope has been playing brilliantly in goal, the Carabao Cup fourth round is another chance for Aaron Ramsdale to feature. He had a quiet 90 minutes in the previous round, and Howe will hope that is the case against Spurs as well.

No Sandro Tonali again for Newcastle United
For the third game in a row, Sandro Tonali should start on the Newcastle United bench.
Lewis Miley is playing very well at this moment in time, and deserves the chance to start again – especially as it is a Carabao Cup tie as opposed to the Premier League.
The game against Spurs should be a chance for Jacob Ramsey to return to the starting XI, having been an unused substitute at the weekend. He will be keen to impress, as he continues to push Joelinton for a regular place in the Newcastle United midfield.
Will Osula handed his biggest opportunity against Spurs
Nick Woltemade has played so much football as of late and therefore needs a rest. That should allow Will Osula to start against Spurs, fresh off the back of his incredible cameo versus Fulham.
Osula effectively won the game for the Magpies, but now he must perform for longer against a stronger side. It will be a key moment in his development, as he endeavours to prove to Eddie Howe that he should play more.
The same goes for Harvey Barnes and Anthony Elanga, who are predicted to join Osula in attack at St James’ Park in place of Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy.
