Tottenham Hotspur fans are furious after Jayden Bogle escaped a red card following a controversial red card decision.

On Saturday afternoon, Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur kicked off an exciting day of Premier League action at Elland Road.

But it wasn't long until controversy clouded the match as several major VAR decisions have been called out online, including a brutal challenge from Jayden Bogle.

Following a physical first half that saw neither Spurs or Leeds take a lead, a late challenge from Leeds defender Bogle on Spurs forward Mathys Tel is what has got people riled up.

As Bogle attempted to get the ball, his boot completely missed and instead went down the back of Tel's leg.

Referee John Brooks didn't see the need to book Bogle for the decision, forcing VAR to intervene and check the controversial challenge.

While the VAR check was ongoing, Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi was furious while Tel remained on the ground injured for some time with what appeared to be an Achilles injury.

Eventually, to the shock of many, VAR deemed there was no serious foul play in the challenge, and both men returned to the pitch before Tel ultimately requested to be taken off, clearly unable to play on.

And now, the Premier League match centre has explained the controversial call.

Posting on X, it confirmed: "The referee’s call of no red card to Bogle for the challenge on Tel was checked and confirmed by VAR.

"VAR: “I'm confirming the on-field decision of no red card. There’s a lack of speed going into the challenge and he’s stepping into the tackle. Confirming a reckless challenge”.

Reacting to the decision, one fan wrote: Where's the red card! A terrible tackle leaves Tel down."

Another added: "The inconsistency in the Premier League is insane. Bogle should be out by now, this is a red card challenge on Tel.

With another writing: "Nowhere near the ball, full weight on opposition player in the Achilles and clearly injured a player. Of course they don’t even book him, absolute joke."

While one pointed out that Brooks had previously sent Xavi Simons off for a similar challenge on Virgil van Dijk in December last year.

The decision came after further controversy earlier in the half when Leeds were denied a penalty after claiming that Spurs midfielder Mateus Fernandes had committed a handball inside the box.

VAR also looked at the decision, before the Match Centre confirmed that the ball had insted hit the very top of the arm as he is leaning in the 'green zone' that meant it was not deemed to be a handball.
