Tottenham Hotspur are in serious danger of relegation this season and will face a turbulent summer if they lose their spot in the top flight for the first time in the Premier League era.

The Lilywhites have seven matches in which to save themselves but their most recent result at home to Nottingham Forest did little to demonstrate their fortunes are soon going to change, as their relegation rivals ran out 3-0 winners at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There are likely to be many changes in terms of the playing staff regardless of which division Spurs find themselves in next season, as rival clubs plan reported swoops for key players such as Micky van de Ven and Archie Gray. There could be a mass exodus of players out of the club and the future of one midfield star has reportedly already been decided.

Yves Bissouma set to depart Spurs on free transfer

As reported by TEAMtalk, Spurs midfielder Yves Bissouma is set to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract expires. The north London club have the option to extend his deal by a year until 2027, but reporting states that they will not take up this option and the Mali international will depart this summer instead.

The 29-year-old has been out of favour for much of the campaign and hardly featured at all under former boss Thomas Frank amid injury problems, while a recent return to the first-team fold and off-field disciplinary issues have done little to change his long-term future at the club. Close to leaving last summer, reporting continues that Bissouma’s agent is ‘already in talks’ with other clubs to seal a departure this time around.

Bissouma cost Spurs £25million when he signed from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, but his four-year association with the club ‘will end’ this summer. European clubs such as Marseille, Nice and Galatasaray are touted as potential options, while Premier League interest from Everton and West Ham has ‘largely faded’. There is also the possibility of a move to the Saudi Pro League or the MLS.

The midfielder would free up space on the wage bill if he departs on a free and the decision has been ‘taken out of the hands’ of whoever arrives as the club’s permanent manager ahead of next season.
