£60m Tottenham and Liverpool target told he should be ‘fuming’ with England snub

England boss Thomas Tuchel named his squad for the upcoming October internationals – and there were some shock absentees.

Jude Bellingham, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden were all left out of the 24-man group ahead of a friendly against Wales at Wembley and a World Cup qualifier in Latvia.

Thomas Tuchel largely stuck with the same squad he named for the victory against Andorra and the impressive thumping of Serbia during the last international break in September.

But that has meant players who were expected to make the cut this time were instead snubbed.

Troy Deeney says Adam Wharton should be furious

There was no place for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton despite his stellar form for the club.

Wharton, 21, has been a regular fixture in Oliver Glasner’s side during their 19-match unbeaten streak, and he again stood out in the 2-0 win against Dynamo Kyiv in the Conference League on Thursday night.

As a result, Troy Deeney believes he has every right to be angrier than other players also overlooked by Tuchel, especially in light of Palace’s heroics in recent months.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the pundit said: “I think Wharton should be fuming.

“He should be thinking ‘how do I get in this team?’ Crystal Palace are 19 unbeaten.

“They’re playing in Europe, they’re beating the big boys, but he still can’t get a game.”

How much Adam Wharton would cost

It is no surprise that a number of big Premier League clubs are interested in signing Wharton.

TBR Football previously revealed that he had the chance to sign for Tottenham Hotspur last summer, but the move did not materialise.

Instead, Wharton hopes to join Liverpool, while Manchester United have also regularly been linked.

It was reported that he carried a hefty £100million price tag, but respected journalist Ben Jacobs has declared that he is more likely to move on for around £60m.

“I’m told that there’s kind of a gentleman’s agreement that next summer, if Wharton doesn’t sign a new deal, he can leave for somewhere in the region of £60m-£65m,” Jacobs told The United Stand.

“Of course, if he does sign a new deal, you might find that a release clause is in or around that kind of number.”
