Rangers will be keeping an eye of Tottenham Hotspur’s battle against relegation from the English Premier League and cheering them on, according to one of their former players.

That’s because if Spurs do end up falling into the Championship, it could harm their chances of retaining teenage sensation Mikey Moore beyond this campaign.

Moore, who is on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur, has developed into one of Rangers’ key players under current head coach Danny Rohl. The 18-year-old has been their most creative outlet and his recent performances have led to supporters demanding that the England youth internationalist returns to Ibrox next term.

That sentiment is shared by Rohl, who after Rangers’ 4-1 win over Aberdeen at the weekend reiterated his desire to keep Moore and intimated that conversation may be under way over a permanent arrangement.

Moore penned a new contract with Spurs last summer after his loan to Rangers was brokered, but since then, head coach Thomas Frank has left the club and performances on the pitch have nosedived under interim boss Igor Tudor, who is under immense pressure just weeks into his tenure.

Spurs currently sit 17th in the EPL table, one point ahead of West Ham in the drop zone and have seven matches left to secure their status in England’s top flight.

And Alan Hutton, who played for both Rangers and Spurs, says the Ibrox outfit will be wanting Spurs to avoid the drop - as Moore would almost certainly be retained for an assault on promotion in the second-tier of English football.

Hutton discussed the Moore situation on Premier Sports’ Scottish Football Social Club with fellow pundit Michael Stewart and host Darrell Currie, with all in agreement that relegation for Spurs could be costly for Rangers.

Stewart said: “Quickly on that point, Rangers will be praying that Spurs don’t get relegated because if they do, you’re looking at Moore and thinking ‘he’s going back to Spurs and he’s going to be one of their main guys.

And Hutton chipped in: “That’s exactly what I thought. Exact same. If they go down, he’s their main main. He’s coming back.

When it was put to Hutton by Currie that he would be wanting his old team to get relegated, the former Spurs full-back - who played 66 games for the North London side across all competitions - added: “It’s nothing to do with me!”

Moore was due to be on international duty with England Under-20s this week, but withdrew from the squad on Monday on medical grounds.
