Real Madrid should be on alert amid several Premier League clubs including Chelsea targeting a Tottenham Hotspur star who has prominence. A new midfielder is undoubtedly on Florentino Perez's to-do list heading into the summer transfer window.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Spurs might have a battle on their hands to keep Lucas Bergvall this summer. Several rival clubs made enquiries in January but the North Londoners kept hold of their Swedish starlet.

Chelsea and Aston Villa are said to be among the long-term admirers of the 20-year-old. His game time has surprisingly decreased this season despite arguably being one of his team's best players.

Bergvall has started 10 of 17 Premier League appearances, posting one goal and two assists. He was a regular in the Lilywhites' team under Ange Postecoglou and part of the side that won the Europa League last season.

Tottenham sacked Thomas Frank and replaced him with Igor Tudor as caretaker manager on Friday. The Croatian is tasked with steering Spurs away from a relegation battle as they sit just five points above the drop zone.

Madrid need to join Bergvall race

Should Bergvall's future remain in doubt this summer its likely clubs will continue to try and prise him away from the North London giants. He has five years left on his contract but only earns a reported €69, 500 (via Capology) with his current club.

That would put Spurs under pressure regarding trying to keep the Swedish midfielder because European heavyweights will be prepared to offer him a pay rise. That could and should include Madrid who are focused on building a team boasting youngsters with world class potential.

Bergvall falls into that category given his excellent displays since joining the Lilywhites in the summer of 2024. He is a versatile profile who has even played out on the left aswell as in midfield this season.

The Swede's former manager Postecoglou spoke glowingly of the teenager during the 2024-25 campaign. He said (via GOAL):

"Sometimes you forget how young he is because he played a lot of games last season, and the maturity with which he plays is fantastic."

Bergvall probably wouldn't be ready to take up an undisputed starting role at Madrid but he is definitely one for the future. He could be signed alongside a more proven midfielder with reports suggesting Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai is of interest.

Chelsea's interest could be with Madrid in mind

Szoboszlai isn't the only high-profile Premier League midfielder who has caught Madrid's eye. Reports claim that Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez is 'strongly drawn' to the idea of a move to the Bernabeu.

The Argentine has impressed this season and been a talisman for the Blues in their push for Champions League qualification. He has appeared 39 times across competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists.

With Madrid seemingly monitoring the 25-year-old it makes sense that the west Londoners are in the market for a new midfielder. Whether they believe there is a chance Fernandez would depart this summer remains to be seen.
