Sandro Tonali’s future in or out of Tyneside has become one of the defining sagas of Newcastle United’s summer transfer window, with Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Arsenal all linked as the club weighs another possible major sale.
According to Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder, Tonali’s salary if he goes to Tottenham has leaked, and the Italian would earn £275,000 per week if he eventually completes the move to London.
That figure would reportedly make the Italy international Tottenham’s highest-paid player, above Conor Gallagher’s reported £200,000-per-week deal, although Gallagher’s wages are believed to include performance and appearance-related clauses.
Ryder also reported that Tonali’s agency, GR Sports, would receive 10 percent of the transfer sale if the move goes through.
Newcastle have publicly valued Tonali at around £100million, though the report claims there are suggestions that a bid closer to £85million could be enough, which we all knew beforehand.
The situation has been compared to Alexander Isak’s drawn-out £125million move to Liverpool last summer, though Tonali has not created the same public disruption, and it’s clear—judging by the ultra-early sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona—that Newcastle don’t even want to get remotely close to late August with any pending big business left to address.
The report describes the current transfer drama surrounding Tonali as mostly agent-driven, with Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi holding strong links to Tonali’s representatives, and Tonali’s own agent pushing for an exit to a bigger club since mid-season.
