Pape Matar Sarr scored for the second consecutive game to complete a stunning comeback win for Senegal away to DR Congo on Tuesday evening.
The in-form midfielder fired home three minutes from time to make it 3-2, having seen his side go 2-0 down in the first half, with the result seeing Senegal leapfrog the hosts into top spot in their World Cup qualifying group.
Pape, who also netted against Sudan on Friday, had only been on the pitch for 10 minutes when he hit the target – he’d been introduced in place of Senegal’s first goalscorer Pape Gueye with the match finely poised at 2-2. Bayern Munich’s Nicolas Jackson was responsible for the visitors’ equaliser.
Pape’s nation will face South Sudan and Mauritania next month as they bid to secure their spot at next summer’s tournament.
