It was a moment we had all been waiting for - and Signe Gaupset certainly didn’t disappoint, as she impressed on her debut for the Club in the 1-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday.
Straight into the starting XI on our return to Barclays Women’s Super League action for 2026, the 20-year-old wasn’t fazed or daunted by a completely new league and new surroundings and, after slowly getting up to speed in the contest, she began to make her mark at her new home.
After a powerful run down the left before cutting inside to charge into the box, Signe saw her effort deflected wide and, from the resulting corner, Eveliina Summanen’s in-swinging ball was turned into her own net by Foxes’ goalkeeper Olivia Clark to put us ahead in contest.
That goal was enough to ensure three points in the end while, before her substitution on the hour mark, the Norway international began to combine nicely with Olivia Holdt on a number of occasions in the second half – showcasing of what’s to come over the next few months.
It was a moment to remember for our new number eight to finally wear the Lilywhite shirt – topped off with earning three points for the side as we climbed to fourth in the table.
“It was amazing,” she told us, reflecting on her first appearance for the Club. “Finally being able to play for this club and help the team felt really special. I’m really, really happy and proud to make my debut, and it feels even better when you come away with three points.
“I guess it took a little while to get going, but I really enjoyed it, especially in the second half. Of course, it’s a new experience for me - it’s a more competitive league with better teams - but it was really fun to play and I was grateful to get the chance to start from Martin [Ho].
She was then asked about what it meant to play in front of our Lilywhite fan base for the first time.
“It was really cool,” she added. “I could hear them throughout the whole game, so I’m really excited to play more games in front of them going forward.
“I just want to keep going with this team, be a part of it, and help as much as I can. I’m really looking forward to what’s coming next."
