Arsenal hammered Tottenham in the latest instalment of the North London derby but Chris Sutton couldn’t resist a dig at the Gunners anyway.

Mikel Arteta’s side stuck four past Tottenham to make it a comfortable double for the season and retake their cushion at the summit of the Premier League table.

Arteta and Arsenal very much showed their credentials as champions in waiting as a double each from Ebere Eze and Viktor Gyokeres ensured Spurs were embarrassed at home.

Who was your Arsenal Man of the Match vs Tottenham Hotspur?

On a day when Sheffield United sent Sheffield Wednesday down to League One, celebrations in front of local rivals were rife.

However, for Chris Sutton, Arsenal perhaps took things too far.

Why Chris Sutton slammed Arsenal after they beat Tottenham

Arsenal rightly celebrated at the end of the game with their fans and in fairness, it felt like a massive result for them.

However, Arsenal have been criticised in the past for over-celebrating and once again, it seems some pundits couldn’t wait to stick the boot in.

Speaking on the Arsenal celebrations – in which Mikel Arteta was also involved – former Chelsea and Celtic striker Chris Sutton suggested the Gunners went a bit over the top.

“Slightly concerned with the over celebrating from the Arsenal players,” Sutton said.

“Celebrate at the end of the season when you have won the title.”

If you cannot celebrate a potentially season defining moment in which you hammer your biggest local rivals with ease, then when can you?

Sutton is never shy about making a point but here, it’s quite frankly ridiculous. The pressure was on Arsenal and the manager today and not only did they deliver, they knocked it out of the park.

Based on Arsenal’s 4-1 win, can Igor Tudor stop Tottenham from suffering relegation?

We saw Sheffield United celebrate massively following their win over Wednesday earlier and nobody batted an eyelid. Why, then do Arsenal get hammered for it?

Jamie Carragher jumped on Martin Odegaard previously and that caused a huge stir at the time.

This from Sutton just seems bitter for bitterness’ sake and on this occasion, Arsenal’s fans, players, and staff would do well to just ignore it.
