Son Heung-min left Tottenham Hotspur this summer after a decade at the club.
The South Korea international is an absolute legend at Spurs, having played 454 games for Spurs in all competitions over 10 years.
Son’s final competitive game for the North Londoners came in Bilbao against Manchester United, and fittingly, he helped Tottenham win the Europa League that night.
The 33-year-old completed his move to LA Galaxy in the first week of August, thus bringing an end to his iconic Spurs career.
Son Heung-min says Tottenham star Cristian Romero is ‘scary’
Cristian Romero is likely to be named as the new captain of Tottenham Hotspur following Son Heung-min’s departure.
The Argentina international joined Spurs in the summer of 2021, initially on loan. That move was made permanent in the following year, and he is arguably their best defender.
Romero was in the leadership group at Spurs under Ange Postecoglou, and he has worn the captain’s armband on many occasions over the last two years.
It remains to be seen if Thomas Frank will officially name Romero as his captain in the coming days, but what’s clear is that Son rates the Argentine very highly.
Just days after leaving Tottenham, the Korean played a game of word association on Goal USA’s social channels.
When asked to name a player who is ‘scary’, Son replied without any hesitation: “Cuti Romero!”
Tottenham received a huge Cristian Romero boost this summer
Romero looked certain to leave Tottenham this summer.
The 27-year-old has aimed a few digs at the Spurs hierarchy over the last two years, and following the sacking of Postecoglou, many felt Romero would leave.
There were numerous reports linking the defender with a move to Spain to join either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid.
Diego Simeone even publicly admitted that he admires Romero, thus fueling the speculation.
However, no move materialised in the end, and it looks like Romero will be staying at Tottenham beyond the end of this summer’s transfer window.
That is a massive boost for Spurs and Frank.
