Pedro Porro continues to improve playing for the current European champions, Spain, and Tottenham will be delighted with his latest display.
Spain produced an emphatic 4-0 win over Bulgaria, taking another step closer to qualifying for next summer’s World Cup.
Mikel Merino scored a brace for Spain before two more goals helped La Roja to comfortably cruise to victory in Elche.
But it was the display of Pedro Porro, which once again impressed the Spanish media as the Tottenham Hotspur defender continues to nail down a starting spot.
Pedro Porro’s defensive qualities impressed the Spanish media against Bulgaria
The Spanish media have been hailing Porro’s latest performance for the national team, as the defender impressed against Bulgaria.
Last week, Porro was named Spain’s best player against Georgia, and now the 26-year-old has followed it up with another strong showing.
Over in Spain, the media were very impressed with Porro’s attacking qualities, but his defensive contributions were also applauded.
El Demarque rated Porro 7/10 and wrote: “Once again, he was very incisive on the right flank with good crosses that were just barely headed in by teammates. He wasn’t pushed very hard in defence, but when he was, he did well.”
There was yet more praise for Porro, this time from Mundo Deportivo: “Just as he did against Georgia, he once again launched several crosses into the box, creating danger. It’s one of his strengths that will help him deprive Carvajal of the starting right-back spot.”
Meanwhile, Marca gave him a 6.5/10 and claimed: “Another opportunity for the Spurs full-back, awaiting any competition from Carvajal. He provided a strong attacking presence against a dedicated opponent. A good arrival as soon as the match restarted, with a back pass for Baena to arrive.”
Pedro Porro is starting to secure a starting spot for Spain
Porro is quickly becoming a key player for Luis de la Fuente’s team at right-back, having started in each of the last four matches.
The Spurs star appears to have the position on lock, as he is competing with Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal for the spot on the team sheet.
Last year, Carvajal suffered an ACL injury and has struggled to regain his best form since making his long-awaited return to action.
For the October round of games, the 33-year-old wasn’t even selected for the Spanish squad, giving Porro a great chance of starting at next summer’s World Cup.
