The defender started the game amongst the substitutes as his side first saw thunderstorms delay kick-off for an hour before they had to battle humidity, altitude and a fervent home crowd at the Estadio Azteca.
But, the Three Lions weathered all of that and ended up finding themselves 2-0 up before the 40-minute mark with a quick fire double from Jude Bellingham putting them in control however, a goal from Julian Quinones just before half-time and then a red card for Jarell Quansah the other side of the break looked to have changed the game in favour of the hosts.
Yet, soon after Quansah's dismissal, England were awarded a penalty and our all-time leading goalscorer Harry Kane rifled in from 12 yards to restore England's two-goal lead on the hour mark.
More drama came though as Kane ended up giving away a penalty at the other end not even 10 minutes later leading to a very nervy last 20 minutes. However, with introduction of Djed, alongside Newcastle United's Dan Burn, Thomas Tuchel's side were significantly boosted in defence with the duo putting their bodies on the line for their country in what was a onslaught from the Mexican national team in the final minutes.
As Djed picked up his 11th cap, England held on for the 3-2 win to book a place in the quarter-finals and a date with Norway in Miami on Saturday 11 July - kick-off 10pm (UK).
