First-half strikes from Signe Gaupset and debutant Kirsty Hanson gave us a healthy advantage at the break at Brisbane Road, much to the delight of our supporters in the stands.
Kirsty then completed the scoring for us with a stunning effort from the edge of the box – which in turned create a new milestone for us – although the visitors grabbed a late consolation goal through Viviane Asseyi.
With three points immediately on the board for the new term, here’s a look at two key milestones our players reached…
Drew Spence’s longevity
Leading the team out for the first time since being named captain for the 2026/27, Drew Spence continued to cement herself as a WSL legend with another key milestone achieved.
In facing West Ham, the 34-year-old became the only player to feature in all 17 WSL campaigns (including Spring Series) to date.
Since making her debut in 2011 for Chelsea, the experienced midfielder reached 200 appearances in the competition in December, 2025 - becoming just the eighth player to reach this milestone in the competition – and has scored 21 goals in total.
Joining us in July, 2022, 73 of her WSL appearances have come in Lilywhite – 89 in all competitions.
Kirsty’s double delight creates new history
From a regular member of our Spurs squad over the last few years to a debutant in our colours, Kirsty couldn’t have asked for a better first game.
Named in the starting XI to make her competitive debut for the Club, the Scotland international became the 15th player since 2011 to score on their debut for us when she slotted home her first goal after just 30 minutes on the clock.
Then, in the second half, she curled home a superb left-footed shot to double her tally in the game – and that turned out to create a new landmark for us in the WSL.
Her double against the Hammers meant she became the first player to score a brace on her WSL debut for the Club.
It was actually her third brace in this calendar year, having found the back of the net twice in Aston Villa’s victories over Chelsea and us last term.
