Tottenham are now said to be leading a move for a Premier League attacker as they look to plug a gap caused by injury. Spurs are in a pivotal moment as they scrap and claw to turn around what has been a dismal Premier League campaign.

The Lilywhites are on course for a second consecutive bottom half finish, with Thomas Frank struggling to turn things around despite a positive start to life at the club. Frank is now under real pressure, and results will likely define whether he can keep his job over the coming weeks.

But in the wake of the sale of Brennan Johnson and injuries aplenty, the Dane needs help. Spurs have already lost Richarlison, Ben Davies, Rodrigo Bentancur and Mohammed Kudus to injuries until the spring, while Dejan Kulusevski is yet to return having been out all season.

Tottenham have made headlines with their pursuit of Liverpool veteran Andy Robertson this month, and their efforts to land a cheap deal for the Scot are expected to continue. But attacking signings should be the priority, with Spurs in desperate need for attackers.

On that front, CaughtOffside are reporting that Spurs lead the chase when it comes to Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian scored for City as recently as the weekend, but despite being a key reason to City’s turnaround last season, he has only started two Premier League games this season. In all, he has made 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice and providing one assist.

The report claims any Spurs deal would be a loan with the option to make the deal permanent in the summer. Aston Villa, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are also being linked. City signed the forward for £59million last January, and they will want to make that money back, be it now or in the summer.

Guardiola’s praise for ‘special’ Marmoush

Guardiola praised Marmoush after the forward’s goal against Wolves over the weekend. "Last season when he arrived he was unbelievable for two or three months," said Guardiola. "Without him it would have been impossible to achieve qualification for the Champions League or reach the FA Cup final.

"He is a special player, not old, not young, but has margin to improve and a sense of goal [with] dynamic energy in his runs, which is really good. I see him more as a striker than a proper winger but he is a guy for transition actions. I am so happy for him."

Those comments do not suggest City will allow Marmoush to leave, but if the player requests to leave in a bid to secure regular football, it may be something they are at least forced to consider. Marmoush was seen as the main option in the absence of Erling Haaland, but with Antoine Semenyo snapped up this month, the Egyptian knows he faces a complicated path to regular starts.

Semenyo did play wide against Wolves, however, with Marmoush up top, and that may have been a move from Guardiola to convince the Egyptian he still has a role to play for the club going forward.
