Luton Town have been linked with a loan move for Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder Jamie Donley.
The 21-year-old, who was born in Antrim, started out at Colchester Villa Youth FC, and then moved to Spurs as an eight year old, going on to be a regular on the scoresheet for the U18s with 16 goals in 18 U18s Premier League matches during the 2021-22 campaign, netting 38 times for the club’s various youth teams when coming through the ranks.
In January 2022, he signed his first professional contract with the club, making his debut for the U21s in the Football League Trophy in August 2022, bagging a double in the U21s’ 5-0 victory at Colchester in September 2023. Donley then got his chance in the first team, with three substitute outings in the Premier League that season, coming off the bench against Manchester City, Newcastle United and Brentford, along with an outing in the FA Cup win over Burnley too.
Donley went on loan to Leyton Orient in August 2024 and had a fine season with the O's, scoring eight goals in 52 appearances, as along with Town keeper Josh Keeley, who had also been borrowed from the north London side, reached the League One play-off final, only to lose out to Charlton Athletic at Wembley.
Last term, Donley moved to Championship side Stoke City on loan in the summer of 2025, but featured just six times, as he was recalled by Spurs and then headed to fellow second tier side Oxford United in January, playing 15 times and scoring once, that in the 1-0 victory over Blackburn.
Having played for England at U15s to U19s level, he then switched allegiances to Northern Ireland, playing for the U19s and U21s, making his senior debut in a 1-1 friendly draw against Switzerland in March 2025. Donley scored his first goal in the 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Luxembourg in November last year, and was then on target again in the 1-1 draw at Wales in an international friendly, a game that possible new team-mate Callum Marshall also featured in.
After returning to Spurs, Donley, who played in the pre-season friendly against MK Dons, was included in a 35-player squad for the club’s pre-season tour to New Zealand and Australia, as speaking earlier in the year, he made it clear that he is looking to break in at his boyhood club if possible, saying: “Whatever happens in the summer, I’ll be trying to do my best to get into the Spurs team. Obviously I’m a young player, but I still think I can play a part in that Tottenham side. As a Spurs fan it’s (struggling against relegation last season) disappointing but if I go back there in the summer I’ll try and impress in pre-season.”
With Luton looking to add to their midfield ranks following injuries to Jordan Clark and Jayden Luker, plus George Saville moving to Bromley, Tottenham Academy account Lilywhite Rose wrote on their X page: “EXCL: Understand Jamie Donley (21) is in advanced talks to join Luton Town on a season long loan deal. Jamie heading to Luton to complete his medical this morning.”
