Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney have both explained what they feel Tottenham Hotspur could achieve under Thomas Frank next season.
The Thomas Frank era started with a penalty shootout defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final.
Tottenham Hotspur produced an impressive account of themselves, but allowed a 2-0 lead to slip heading into the final five minutes of normal time.
But the signs for the North London club are positive following their display, with the two former England stars backing them to have successful campaigns.
Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney back Tottenham to challenge for European spots
Wayne Rooney believes that Tottenham could return to challenging for the European spots next season based on their Super Cup performance.
The former England international claims that he was very impressed by the balance Frank’s team showed against Paris Saint-Germain.
Mohammed Kudus was one of several Tottenham players who impressed against the European champions, with plenty of positives to be taken from the match, despite the defeat.
Last season, under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs conceded the 15th most goals in the Premier League and this was a key area Frank needed to address.
Rooney told BBC MOTD: “I think the balance of the team looks a lot better, even just from that 90 minutes watching them play.
“The balance looks much better, so I think if they keep that balance, they can be challenging for Europe.”
Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard has also backed Spurs to challenge for Europe in the Premier League and believes they are good enough for fifth place.
The Liverpool legend believes that his former club, Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham will be the clubs which make up the top five next season.
Tottenham need to accelerate Eberechi Eze and Savinho deals
Tottenham need to accelerate deals to sign Eberechi Eze and Savinho to stand a chance of competing in both the Premier League and Champions League next season.
The Super Cup final highlighted Tottenham’s need for attacking reinforcements, with Mathys Tel struggling to make an impact off the bench.
TBR Football has exclusively revealed that Arsenal’s move for Eze is off, leaving Spurs with a potentially clear run at the 27-year-old.
