Morgan Gibbs-White has been in the thick of the news over the last week or so, and one development last night has significance for Wolves.

The former Molineux midfielder has been in the headlines after Tottenham Hotspur triggered his £60 million release clause recently.

News of that release clause came as a real surprise, as no one really knew of its existence.

Nottingham Forest reacted furiously to this move by Spurs, and threatened legal action over an alleged illegal approach.

Forest felt Spurs’ conduct had been inappropriate and are said to have consulted lawyers, as they felt Spurs did not have permission to speak to the player.

According to the Guardian, Forest ‘also felt there had been a breach in confidentiality regarding the release clause’ in his contract.

There had been suggestions that a move could still happen.

However, a development last night means it now looks to be completely off the table.

No windfall for Wolves as Morgan Gibbs-White signs new contract with Nottingham Forest

Last night, Nottingham Forest sprung a surprise, by announcing that Morgan Gibbs-White has now signed a new contract with them.

That now rules out a move for the player this summer, and that means there will be no small windfall for Wolves over Gibbs-White.

Wolves, of course, have a sell-on clause over the player.

It is for 10% of any profit Forest make on Gibbs-White – not 10% of any full fee.

As he’ll now be staying put, it means Wolves will not receive the small windfall they may have perhaps been expecting amid the heavy interest from Spurs.

Wolves, at least, did bank a small sum on Gibbs-White after Forest qualified for Europe, but the club will not be making any more money off him this summer.

No Gibbs-White windfall a shame for Wolves

Wolves were never set to make an absolute fortune from Gibbs-White’s next move, but the small amount of money that would have come in would still have been a nice little windfall.

Potentially, that additional income could have been used by the club to get a move for a target over the line, whether it be putting the money towards the transfer fee, or a player’s wages.

The Gibbs-White Forest and Spurs saga has made for somewhat compelling reading over the last week or so, and his decision to stay put at the City Ground is fascinating.

Seemingly, the terms presented by Forest were favourable, and he will now be at the City Ground for the foreseeable future, meaning Wolves potentially face a fairly long wait to make any more money off of him.
