Historic first Chelsea vs Tottenham London Derby outside England confirmed – plus Wanderers clash with Chelsea

Sydney FC will welcome Europa League Champions Tottenham Hotspur back to the Harbour City next July as part of the 2026 Sydney Super Cup, a two-week festival of world football that will also feature the first-ever London Derby between Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur played outside of England.

In a huge boost for football fans across Australia, the iconic rivals will meet in a historic showdown on Sydney soil – the headline fixture of a global sporting celebration that will place Sydney firmly in the international spotlight.

The Sky Blues will take on English giants Spurs at Allianz Stadium on Wednesday 29th July, marking 11 years since the clubs last met in Sydney in front of a sell-out crowd at Accor Stadium, when Harry Kane scored the only goal in a 1-0 win.

Sydney FC will again lead the way as Australia’s benchmark club, going toe-to-toe with one of world football’s most recognisable sides.

Seb Gray, Executive Vice Chairman, Sydney FC said: “We at Sydney FC are incredibly excited to again host Europa League Champions Tottenham Hotspur at the magnificent Allianz Stadium, 11 years on from our first memorable meeting.

“The Sydney Super Cup continues to bring the world’s best to Australia to take on the A-League’s benchmark in Sydney FC, giving our fans a fantastic opportunity to see their team test themselves against elite footballers.

“Sydney will also underline its reputation as the world’s premier destination city by bringing traditional Premier League London derby rivals Spurs and Chelsea together, continuing over a century of hostilities in their first meeting down under.”

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach, Thomas Frank, said: “Sydney is one of the world’s most iconic locations for sport and I’m excited to be able to take the team there to play two matches, including one against one of our biggest rivals.

“I’ve heard all about our passionate fanbase in Australia and it’s something the Club is very proud of. I can’t wait to experience that for myself and I know the supporters will love the opportunity to watch us take on Sydney FC and Chelsea in their home country.

“While in Sydney, as well as engaging with our fans, it’s important that we explore the local area and celebrate its culture – that is something we are all looking forward to.”

The blockbuster schedule will also include Chelsea FC’s men’s team facing Western Sydney Wanderers, before the spotlight shifts to the first Chelsea v Tottenham London Derby ever staged outside the UK – a match expected to draw fans from around the nation and beyond.

Alongside the men’s fixtures, supporters will also be treated to elite women’s football with a showcase match featuring Matildas star Sam Kerr’s Chelsea FC, one of the world’s most successful sides, taking on an A-League Women’s All-Stars lineup, likely to include a host of Matildas and Sydney FC talent.

Minister for Jobs and Tourism and Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said: “Sydney has kicked another goal as Australia’s home of football, with two of the world’s best clubs coming to compete in the Sydney Super Cup 2026.

“Alongside this blockbuster, we’re thrilled to announce a marquee women’s fixture. Chelsea FC Women will take on the Women’s A-League All Stars.

“These four matches will give visiting fans the chance for an extended stay in our beautiful Harbour City, taking in our iconic natural attractions and vibrant cultural experiences in one of the world’s premium sporting destinations.

“As we work towards our goal of a $91 billion visitor economy, major events like this are crucial TO create memorable experiences that inspire visitors to stay longer, return again and explore more of our great state.”

Pete Nuttall, Director of Travel & Touring, Chelsea FC said:

“We look forward to travelling to Sydney as part of our pre-season tour to take part in what is going to be a fantastic competition and celebration of football, as we make our preparations for the 2026/27 season.”

The Sydney Super Cup returns following its successful 2022 launch, which saw Celtic and Everton thrill fans in another major football moment for the city.

Sydney FC will have a pre-sale for tickets for Members this Thursday 11th December from 12pm until Friday 12th December at 12pm.
