Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero’s season ended early after suffering a knee injury against Sunderland on April 12th.

The Argentina international picked up an injury after colliding with Tottenham goalkeeper Antonín Kinský.

His setback immediately raised concerns over his involvement with the national team for the World Cup.

Last month, Argentina assistant manager Roberto Ayala ruled out a serious blow and said he’s undergoing platelet-rich plasma treatment.

There’s expectation for the centre-back to recover in time for the FIFA tournament in America and Mexico in June.

Fresh updates on Tottenham player

However, that doesn’t stop Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni from worrying about some of his players.

That’s according to Pagina 12, who state Argentia are focusing more on physical condition rather than whether their players are enjoying regular minutes to maintain match fitness.

Cristian Romero can’t feature again for Tottenham Hotspur this season due to injury. The World Cup winners have him under the magnifying glass as he’s one of the key stars.

The 28-year-old has been recovering from a ‘sprained lateral collateral ligament’ in his right knee. He recently underwent further tests, and the results have ruled out an accompanying muscle injury.

Therefore, the Spurs captain is expected to be fit on time for the two friendlies against Honduras [June 7th UK time] and Iceland [June 10th] before the World Cup.

La Albiceleste are not taking any chances and have sent their medical staff to London to closely monitor Romero’s recovery.

What next for defender and Tottenham

Roberto De Zerbi can’t rely upon Cristian Romero in the north London club’s relegation battle.

Tottenham Hotspur got out of the danger zone but are only a point above 18th placed West Ham United.

There’s also been constant claims of what will happen to the South American’s future. Over the past week or so, the Spanish media have talked about Barcelona as an option.

On April 29th, Sport Witness relayed news Barca identify Romero is the main alternative to Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.

Earlier this week, we covered claims that the Argentina could be available for a ‘very good price’ of around €50m.

It’s not giving he’ll end up at the Camp Nou, but there’s a good chance Romero will leave Spurs.
