Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is ‘quietly confident’ that a top Serie A forward that Daniel Levy did not sign in the summer transfer window will move in January, according to a report, but the north London club are facing competition from Juventus for his signature.

After winning the Europa League last season and appointing Frank as the manager, Tottenham were busy in the summer transfer window, as Levy, who has since departed as the club’s chairman, was keen on strengthening the squad to enhance their chances of finishing in the Premier League top four and progressing from the League Phase of the Champions League this season.

Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani were among the major signings that Tottenham made in the summer.

Kolo Muani arrived at Spurs on the final day of the summer transfer window, with the 26-year-old France international striker signing on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

Tottenham were also in for Ademola Lookman on deadline day, with TEAMtalk’s transfer insider, Dean Jones, reporting on September 1 that the Premier League club has asked for details about the Atalanta forward.

Atalanta were willing to sell Lookman, who was named the 2024 African Player of the Year at the Confederation of African Football Awards in Marrakech in December 2024, for £43.3million (€50m, $59m).

However, Tottenham never made a bid for Lookman, who is still at Atalanta and is set to train for the first time under manager Ivan Juric after he was frozen out of the team and trained separately in August after trying to force a move out of the Serie A outfit.

According to SportsBoom, Tottenham manager Frank is still keen on a January deal for Lookman, who scored 20 goals and gave seven assists in 40 appearances for Atalanta last season, playing predominantly as a second striker.

Frank is ‘a big admirer’ of Lookman and is ‘quietly confident’ that Tottenham will be able to sign the Nigeria international forward for £20million after telling the north London club to make a bid.

Tottenham face Juventus competition for Ademola Lookman

It remains to be seen if Tottenham bid for Lookman in January and, indeed, if Atalanta are receptive to selling him, especially for just £20m (€23m, $27m).

Spurs will also face competition for the former Everton forward, with TuttoSport reporting that Juventus are keen on the 27-year-old.

Dusan Vlahovic is out of Juventus at the end of the season and is very likely to leave.

Juventus, who are aiming to win Serie A this season, plan to sign Lookman as a replacement for Vlahovic.

Lookman has been a star for Atalanta for a number of years now and is at the top of his game.

The forward won the Europa League with Atalanta in the 2023/24 campaign and was named the club’s best player in 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.

If Tottenham are able to sign Lookman for £20m (€23m, $27m) in January, then they should go for it.
