Arsenal are expected to be in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer as they look to end their 22-year-wait for a Premier League title.

The Gunners have finished as runners-up in all of the last three seasons but have proven themselves to be forced to be reckoned with after reaching the Champions League semi-final and recording 80+ points in both the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns.

They are a squad blessed with quality but have been criticised for lacking a clinical centre forward and depth in attacking areas to get them over the line.

This is an area Arsenal are keen to rectify this summer and it’s reported that Mikel Arteta could be reunited with an attacker he once coached at Manchester City to try and resolve the problem.

Arsenal handed boost in Leroy Sane pursuit

Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sane is approaching the final weeks of his contract with the Bundesliga champions and is likely to be available on a free transfer this summer.

Sane won two league titles at Manchester City as a player and worked under Mikel Arteta during his time as assistant coach at the Etihad Stadium.

The German’s future continues to be a subject of speculation in this summer window and his high profile and proven track record in both the Premier League and Bundesliga makes him a key target for a number of top clubs.

German outlet Bild understands Tottenham were one of those interested in the player but claims Sane has turned down a contract offer with the Lillywhites, with him instead preferring a move to the team’s North London rivals Arsenal.

Sane can play comfortably as both a right winger and a left winger, and is renowned for his excellent pace, dribbling ability, creativity and composure in front of goal.

He registered 13 goals and six assists in 43 matches last season for Bayern Munich across all competitions and has an overall record of 61 goals and 55 assists from 220 matches.

The 29-year-old has also represented Germany on 70 occasions, scoring 14 and registering eight assists. He’s expected to be a key player in the upcoming World Cup next summer and will hope that he can achieve regular minutes to boost his chances of starting at that tournament in North America.

How could signing Leroy Sane benefit Arsenal?

Mikel Arteta has had a mixed record when recruiting players that he coached at Manchester City.

Oleksandr Zinchenko was a regular in his first two seasons but has dropped down the pecking order following the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly. Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus enjoyed a strong first season in North London but has succumbed to injury in his last two campaigns.

Raheem Sterling was the latest ex-City star to be recruited by Arsenal but failed to deliver the goods with just one goal and five assists in 28 matches across all competitions while only starting seven league matches.

Leroy Sane will hope to have a much more transformative effect on City if he is signed by Arteta and is undoubtedly a player capable of influencing the title race after registering more goals last season then Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli.

He’s also multifaceted due to his ability to play on both wings and at times has even played as a central attacking midfielder.

Overall, it looks like a good signing for Arsenal if they can get it over the line but their priority is expected to still be the centre forward position, with talks over a move for Benjamin Sesko thought to be ongoing.
