The 17-year-old has been almost ever-present at youth team level this term, playing 90 minutes in all but one of our Under-18 Premier League games so far and scoring his first goal against Chelsea away in October.
A former captain of our Under-16s, he has also featured for us in the Under-18 Premier League Cup and UEFA Youth League during what has been a superb campaign on a personal level.
Having recently signed his first professional contract, Tyler wore the armband for the Under-18s for the first time during Wednesday’s dramatic 2-2 draw at Reading, where he was instrumental in our superb defensive effort to preserve a point with 10 men.
He’s now been named on an eight-man shortlist for the newly-introduced award from the Premier League – also nominated are Chelsea’s Mathis Eboué and Chizaram Ezenwata, Manchester United’s JJ Gabriel and Albert Mills, Manchester City’s Teddie Lamb, Joe Roberts of Middlesbrough and Josh Sonni-Lambie of Liverpool.
The winner will be announced at the Premier League Youth Development Conference on Tuesday 12 May.
