Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario seems to be approaching the end of the road at the club. Inter Milan are now playing hardball about signing him in the summer.
Sport Witness have regularly covered the newly-crowned Italian champions’ interest in the goalkeeper.
Personal terms between them and Vicario have been agreed, with the player keen on a return to Italy. There have been suggestions that he is quite frustrated at Spurs, who have been embroiled in enough drama this season.
Inter tried to sign the stopper during his time at Empoli as well. Tottenham trumped them in the chase at that point but Inter are desperate to sign him now.
There are signs that the two clubs are facing difficulties in agreeing a transfer fee.
Inter exploring alternatives
InterLive report that the 29-year-old is indeed Inter’s favourite for the goalkeeping spot. They confirm that personal terms are in place, with Guglielmo Vicario described as an ‘old favourite’ for sporting director Piero Ausilio.
Problems are growing because of Tottenham’s valuation of €25m. Inter are not willing to go beyond €15m right now and feel Spurs’ asking price is ‘too much’.
This has led to the London club postponing discussions until the end of the season. Inter are lying in wait, hoping potential relegation leads to the lowering of the valuation for the keeper.
At the same time, the Nerazzurri are also exploring alternatives in the market.
Initial contact has been made for Lazio’s Ivan Provedel, who is behind Edoardo Motta in the pecking order. There is also interest in Lecce’s Wladimiro Falcone, who has established himself as a proven Serie A goalkeeper.
Our take: Tottenham stance justified
Guglielmo Vicario’s current deal at Spurs runs out in 2028. Selling him in 2027 would hand the club enough leverage to seek a capital gain.
That’s why Tottenham should be in no rush to sell Vicario this summer. If Inter can’t afford him, he has done enough to attract more clubs.
Italian sides like Juventus and Fiorentina might also need goalkeepers in the summer. Because of how the 29-year-old did at Empoli and in his first two seasons at Spurs, they could come calling for Vicario.
At the end, it could all come down to the player and whether he pushes to go to a specific club or not.
