Sulking Sandro Tonali could only watch on from the bench as his old side celebrated a big win in the capital against big-spending Tottenham Hotspur.
Tonali was cheered off the field as Newcastle United outclassed the London side, as the Magpies had home fans heading for the exits long before the final whistle. Tonali had been bombarded with boos and jeers and chants of 'one greedy b------' and 'you should have stayed at a big club'.
And it was the man who had essentially replaced him in Nico Gonzalez who was left feeling the love of the Toon Army, as they chanted his name on an excellent debut for the Spain Under-21 international.
Full match verdict and analysis here
Newcastle started the stronger of the two teams but probably wanted half-time more than Tottenham as the half came to a close. Both teams created plenty of chances, with Hornicek making a couple of good saves, but Newcastle will be happy enough at the break to go in level. All to play for in the second half.
Lukas Hornicek 8
A safe pair of hands so far, with a couple of fine stops to keep Spurs at bay.
Amar Dedic 8
The Rolls-Royce full-back is easing through the gears and creating chances.
Malick Thiaw 7
Sturdy enough so far.
Sven Botman 7
Reading the game well enough.
Lewis Hall 5
Can get more change down the left-hand side than this.
Lewis Miley 6
Has shown some quality in midfield alongside debutant Gonzalez.
Nico Gonzalez 7
A faultless display so far, with accurate and sumptuous passing on show.
Harvey Barnes 6
Nothing has fallen for him so far.
Joe Willock 5
At least managed to nail Tonali. But has struggled overall.
Anthony Elanga 6
Some glimpses of goal early on.
Yoane Wissa 5
Has not threatened enough as the main striker.
