Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly struck a big-money agreement with Newcastle United to sign Sandro Tonali this summer. It comes amid a spectacular spending spree by Spurs, who are looking to equip Roberto De Zerbi with a squad capable of challenging much further up the table after back-to-back 17th-place finishes.
Tottenham fell right behind the pack in the previous two seasons, and despite lifting their first piece of silverware since 2008 last year, had some serious work to do with their squad. Their latest statement in the transfer market appears to be a big one, with Tonali set to become the club's most expensive ever player.

That's according to The Athletic, who report the 26-year-old is heading for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after an agreement worth £92.5million was reached between the two clubs. It's a deal that could eventually rise to £100m, should the proposed add-ons - which include Champions League qualification - be achieved.
The north Londoners upped the ante in their pursuit of Tonali after learning of keen interest from other clubs, including Manchester City and Manchester United, who had both been sniffing around the Italy international. They are said to have made club-to-club contact late last month, before pulling the trigger on what will be a new club-record deal.

That record was set to be broken after news dropped that Spurs had agreed an £85m deal to sign Mateus Fernandes from recently-relegated West Ham United. While neither transfer has been completed yet, Tonali will become the most expensive player in Tottenham's history when he signs on the dotted line.

It's already been a hectic summer for Spurs, with three players having arrived at the club. The 2025 Europa League winners secured the services of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson on free transfers, with the pair joining from Bournemouth and Liverpool respectively. Back-up goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is another who joined for free.
They also spent big to sign Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth £52m, with the defender having had one year left on his deal at the AMEX Stadium. There has been some chatter about exits, most notably Lucas Bergvall, who reportedly wants out of Spurs in search of a new challenge.
Tottenham aren't said to be done yet, as the nearly-relegated side are said to be chasing a new winger, with City's Savinho having been mentioned as a potential target. They had been interested last summer, and it's suggested Spurs have renewed their interest in the Brazilian forward.
