Tottenham could have a key advantage over a transfer rival as they look to strengthen their attack
Tottenham have already been given the go-ahead to sign Victor Osimhen.
It's been a busy summer of arrivals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with around £237million being splashed on new recruits so far. But Roberto De Zerbi isn't done yet and now wants to bolster his forward line.
Spurs are being linked with a move for the highly-rated Osimhen, who has had a price tag of around £55million slapped on his head by Galatasaray, reports skysport.ch. Saudi side Al Hilal have also been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old Nigerian, although they would first need to create space in their squad by offloading Karim Benzema.
Spurs could have the edge due to Osimhen's long-held dream of playing in the Premier League. In 2023, while at Napoli, he spoke of his admiration for the English top flight.
He said: "I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world is an amazing feeling for me.
"A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and the strongest league but now I'm in one of the best leagues in the world, which is the Italian Serie A.
"I'm working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League some day but like I said, it's a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well."
Those words suggest Spurs already hold one key advantage over Al Hilal, who would need to work much harder to convince him to decamp to the Saudi Pro League. At 27, as he potentially enters his prime, there would be no better time for him to make the leap to England.
De Zerbi has made no secret of his desire to add to his attack, saying last month: "The target now is to complete the attacking positions.
"We want the first target, the first level, because anyway we are already important players, but I think to start the new project we need another couple of important players, for sure."
Spurs have already broken the club's transfer twice this summer in deals for Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke also arrived from Brighton for £52million, while Martin Dubravka, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi signed on as free agents.
Manchester City winger Savinho is reportedly close to completing a switch to north London in a £60m deal. With Micky van de Ven having also committed his long-term future to the club, there is genuine hope Spurs will be challenging at the right end of the table.
