Spurs have been linked to Tyler Dibling and are still interested in him
Tottenham are living a curious moment. After winning the Europa League and securing their ticket to the Champions League, the club are aiming high and looking to continue consolidating a young but ambitious project. The sporting management has shown a certain coherence in its recent signings, opting for under-23 talent with direct projection to the starting eleven.
This line of work has paid off with names such as Brennan Johnson, Van de Ven and Archie Gray. All indications are that the Londoners want to continue along this path. In this context, it comes as no surprise that Tyler Dibling’s name is once again being bandied about in the club’s offices.
Tottenham are not ready to pay £55m for 19-year-old Englishman
According to Football Insider, Tottenham remain interested in Southampton’s 19-year-old attacker Tyler Dibling, but are not looking to pay the £55m the southern club are demanding. The same source says Spurs tried to sign the Englishman in January and have not ruled out trying again this summer, albeit short of that figure.
Dibling, who has excelled in England’s youth teams, is seen as a possible addition to the team’s present and future. Despite the player’s potential, the club’s officials consider the current price tag to be out of all logic for a young player with no Premier League experience.
From my point of view, this decision makes a lot of sense. Gambling on young talent is sensible, but that doesn’t mean accepting just any figure. £55 million for a kid with limited minutes in the Championship is far from any reasonable criteria, even in this inflated market.

Tottenham have shown they can find value in smart signings, as with Bergvall and Gray, who cost far less and are already delivering results. Dibling could end up being a great player, but right now he represents more of a promise than a certainty. It is not about his quality, but about the context and the moment.
Paying that amount would break the logic that has sustained the club in its recent successes. From another angle, one could argue that if Spurs firmly believe in his talent, they should pre-empt other clubs and close the deal. But that’s where risk management comes in: there are better ways to spend £55m. Maybe in two years’ time he’ll be worth that or more, but today, with what he’s shown, he’s simply not worth it. Tottenham are right to stand firm.
