The 2025/26 Premier League season has been filled with garish results for Tottenham Hotspur, and after yet another embarrassing result with a 3-0 blowout loss to Nottingham Forest, there are serious concerns about both Thomas Frank as a manager and the overall quality of the squad.

There are a number of players who Frank likes above the others, mostly veterans, but whom fans are becoming increasingly skeptical of. And although goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has some of the best pure shot stopping statistics in the Premier League and is not one of the worst players on the team, but his errors are proving costly.

After watching Vicario make two more costly errors in another awful loss this past weekend, many Tottenham fans are fully in the camp of wanting a new goalkeeper, because there is a realization that all the top teams in the Premier League have goalkeepers who do not make basic handling, positional, and distribution errors that cost their teams double digit points in the table.

Tottenham are ready to move on

According to new information from journalist Paul O Keefe, via The Spurs Watch, Tottenham Hotspur are now starting to have the same opinion of their goalkeepers as many of the fans do. Per O Keefe, Tottenham are now looking at possible Guglielmo Vicario replacements in goal for the upcoming transfer windows. While the move for a goalkeeper likely will not be in January, O Keefe admits that while Spurs would have never considered moving on from the ex Empoli man in between the sticks, that has changed. And now if they have the chance to upgrade from Vicario, Spurs will take it.

The player Tottenham fans have their eyes on as a dream upgrade on Vicario in 2026 is James Trafford. He was putting up crazy numbers at Burnley and is a goalkeeping phenom, but Manchster City kind of screwed him over by signing Gianluigi Donnarumma shortly after they signed him this past summer, thus rendering Trafford obsolete.

While Trafford could eventually fight himself into starts over the Champions League hero at PSG because of Donnarumma's distribution issues, it is more likely that Trafford calls it quits and tries to join another top club like Tottenham where he would be an immediate starter. Vicario isn't a bad goalkepeer, but Trafford is younger, even better at shot stopping, and already much less prone to mistakes. There is also the matter that Vicario has a small club mentality and likes to throw teammates under the bus instead of fixing his own mental gaffes.
