Once again, Tottenham Hotspur left their long suffering fan base disappointed in the end. Supporters came into the transfer window with high expectations and dreams of signing top class attacking talent like Bournemouth breakout winger Antoine Semenyo, only to watch as Spurs signed absolutely no forward talent and somehow got even thinner at these key positions.
Meanwhile, the only notable additions to the squad were left back prospect Souza and former Premier Leaguer Conor Gallagher. Spurs briefly showed interest in Andrew Robertson but were wholly unsuccessful in their pursuit of the Liverpool legend.
Tottenham ended the transfer window with a whimper, and fans cannot help but feel that they were, once again, badly led astray by the club's leadership who had promised big additions and real ambition this winter after firing Daniel Levy just months ago.
Tottenham were about to lose two top prospects
But if you are looking for silver linings, then at least Tottenham Hotspur did not part ways with either young talent Mathys Tel or goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky on loan. Already suffering at these two positions, Tel and Kinsky are highly coveted prospects and among the best young players in their respective positions in the Premier League.
And while there were no real concerns about Tel leaving Tottenham after his heart to heart with manager Thomas Frank, Spurs supporters were very much concerned that Kinsky could end up leaving on loan to rivals West Ham United with an option to buy.
Well, the transfer deadline came and went, and after there were rumors seriously linking Kinsky with an exit out and a less competent keeper like Sam Johnstone to take his place as Guglielmo Vicario's backup, the Czech international did not, in fact, leave Tottenham Hotspur in the winter window.
While Antonin Kinsky could have benefited from receiving more playing time, strengthening a potential relegation rival in West Ham would have been potentially disastrous. And the consequences of inserting any sort of clause to sell away Kinsky would have been outright catastrophic, as any competent Premier League club would gladly take a flier on a young talented goalkeeper who should be the heir to Vicario - and maybe sooner than later.
Kinsky is someone Tottenham and Thomas Frank should be playing more instead of selling off for pennies. It may seem like a minor moral victory and averting an obvious crisis, but it was still a major positie
